My friend just got me the entire FARSCAPE series on DVD. Wow...a lot of episodes= a lot of time. Is this show worth the effort? Or is it just eh?

    HELL YEAH!!!!

I think it's a truly classic series. Now, I've no idea whether it's your thing. What other shows do you like?

I think you'll like it. Awesome characters. Awesome story arcs. It definitely has some crappy episodes here and there, but overall it's fantastic.

Should be right up your alley. It's a bit madder and more chaotic than the other two, a bit more trippy. But it's an original setting, deep, layered characters, intriguing ideas...lots of what make those two shows good, plus plenty of it's own.

    Enjoy the ride!

Yeah, it's worth it. But, I've had a Farscape avatar for five years, so, a little biased.

The first half of the first season starts off a bit rocky, but even from the very beginning you start getting attached to some of the characters. But once you seem Crichton (the male lead) put on a Peacekeeper uniform for the first time, that's when you'll know the show really starts getting amazing.

Guess I'll be the lone voice of dissent and say "eh". I've seen the first two seasons, and it's okay if you've got an hour to kill and a sci-fi jones. There are some good bits, but I also find myself giving the screen a dubious glance not infrequently.

    Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman

I voted for option 2. Watch it if you got time but don't cry yourself to sleep if you don't.

I just saw the series for the first time (on DVD) this past month and although I enjoyed it, I wouldn't place it anywhere near DS9 and B5. Its got some fun characters but story wise I don't think it holds a candle to BS9/B5. As good as some of the characters and relationships are I don't think they live up to the greats of B5/DS9 either: Londo-J'Kar, Odo-Quark, O'Brian-Bashir-Garak.

I love almost every episode. Definitely some fantastic characters and bold scripts. It's no trouble to watch.

More than "Worth the Trouble" I think Farscape is one of the best epic space opera series ever created...That is my biased view of course but nothing I have watched before or after is close to character development-interaction and rich production level of Farscape...

At the other hand however some initial episodes during Season 1 are mediocre at best and it is a struggle to watch a few of them. But once you watch and finish S1 if you liked what you see so far then I envy you. Remaining seasons are just getting better..

No show in existence will appeal to everyone, and more than most Farscape isn't for everyone. For the very little it's worth - since only you know what does and does not appeal to you - I consider Farscape one of the three best TV SF shows I've seen, with some of the best characters ever created for a TV show. It's genuinely innovative and its creators took real chances. When they worked, the show reached remarkable heights; when they didn't, it could be awful. But IMO the brilliant far, far outweighs the ordinary.

Basically, if you make it to the end of the first season and aren't completely and utterly hooked, it isn't for you and you should stop watching. But like anything else in life, you won't know if you don't give it a go.

Absol-frelling-lutely. Pick it up and enjoy. Hell, enjoy the first season as well. It's a lot better than most make it out to be.

I'm currently making my way through the show for the first time, and (like most shows) it definitely took some time for me to warm up to it. I liked it enough to keep watching, but it wasn't until around 2x05 that I really started getting into it. "Trippy" is definitely an accurate word.

I've just started watching it too. I'm seven episodes in so far and it's definately trippy! I've already warmed to the characters though, and the madness of the whole thing allows for some good humour. I'm also aware that it improves it's direction at some point, which is fine - I kind of like where it is at the moment.

So yeah, I'd say it's worth a go.

It's one of the top five shows of all time! Definitely worth it! With the usual sci-fi addendum though; the first season isn't that great and takes some getting used to.

Trouble? Effort? Not words I'd use to describe Farscape, unless put in a sentence with 'Farscape is no trouble/effort at all'. Fantastic show.
