I've never been to Shore Leave and I'm planning on attending this year - purely for reasons of getting some books signed and any other Trek-Lit focused talks/panels. I have some questions...

Have any of these things (like the charity roast) been scheduled? Do authors have set times for signing, etc? Is there going to be a Trek Lit panel?

    Thanks!

There is currently no information about panels, but if history is any guide, there probably will be some programming related to TrekLit.

Traditionally, the authors all take part in a mass signing called "Meet the Pros" at 10pm on Friday night. We all sit at tables along the main corridor outside the ballrooms on the lower level.

As for the charity roast, I have been assured by the con committee that it's a go, and I am already at work planning, writing, and producing the show. More details to come as soon as I confirm them with the Shore Leave programming team.

^ This year's guest of honor is multiple New York Times bestselling author Michael Jan Friedman (aka MJF on this board).

    Nice.

I wish I could go; I have a recurring summer teaching gig that overlaps, so I can never make it. Will there be a way to see the video of it again?

^ At some point a few months after the event, I will make the footage available to "friends" of my Facebook page, as I have done with the video of Keith R.A. DeCandido's roast. Also, I am considering offsetting some of my costs by selling "producer" titles on the roast, which gets someone on-screen credit when I make the DVD, and gets them on the comp list for a free DVD copy.

Thanks for the response David. Can anybody speak from experience how fast the hotel fills up? I'd like to leave to go back home Saturday night so hopefully the Lit panels would be Friday or Saturday but if they're not programmed yet I won't be able to make that call right now.

Generally there are only one or two Trek Lit panels on Friday, just before Meet the Pros; in the past few years, it's generally been an author-editor "Smackdown" followed by the presentation announcing the upcoming schedule, and then Meet the Pros. (Though with the recent editorial upheavals, I'm not sure how much of that will survive.) Other lit-related panels are mostly on Saturday and Sunday.

The hotel's full already. I can't even get a room in the con hotel. There are several hotels close by, though.

If you haven't made reservations yet, do so right now. First couple years I went, I barely made it in, so I started making reservations as early as possible.

For what it's worth, the panel schedule usually isn't posted or finalized until a week or two before the convention. Most of the panels, like Christopher said, are on Saturday and Sunday.

I was able to get a room for Friday-->Saturday in the Courtyard Baltmore Hunt Valley, which seems close by. I'll at least be able to get some books signed and attend the upcoming schedule panel if it is scheduled as it has been in the past. Real world concerns (4-year-old and a newly pregnant wife) keep me from staying longer. I already feel guilty!

I think that's the hotel I'm in Corran. I keep checking my corporate travel agency just to be safe, but so far I haven't been able to move into the Marriott.

Assuming that I won't make it to Shore Leave this year, I'd be onboard with supporting the roast this way. :)

Excellent. As soon as I sort out the details and get a page up, I'll post it as a Paypal-based form on my web site. Any monies raised will go toward the show, and if I raise more than I need, all funds beyond production cost will go to the American Red Cross. I treat this hobby/obsession of mine as a strictly nonprofit undertaking.

Boy, that hotel fills fast. We (I share a room with someone) book as early as possible, like November if possible.

See y'all there. I'm going again this year. :) As I did last time, I'm putting a genealogy trip on the front-end of the vacation.

Whoo hoo! Star Trek and genealogy, two of my favorite things.
