I love the former, and am somewhat luke-warm on the latter.
A Bond film is only as good as its Bond girl IMO.

I thought Tomorrow Never Dies was mediocre. I enjoyed some parts of it, and therein lies my problem with Brosnan's films: I enjoy parts of his films (the cold opening of TND, the River Thames chase in The World Is Not Enough, and the first hour of Die Another Day) but I could never appreciate his films as a whole, besides maybe GoldenEye.

No rumors. Morgan was hired last year. The only thing he's talked about in regards to the next movie is that it will be "shocking". For some reason I have a feeling M might die. That's just wild speculation on my part, though. Anyway, the film can't go ahead until MGM is sold. So the film is sort of in limbo right now.

I remember the rumor that Grace Jones was going to replace Roger Moore as the next James Bond way back in the 80s...what if they decide to do that now??? Could you imagine??

Overall, Bond, but if by "now" you mean, like, the Noughties, then I'm your "I love em both" man

I'm curious what he meant by "shocking" as well. I suspect, however, that it'll be mostly meaningless by the time of the finished film. Speaking of which, who knows when we'll see that. Hopefully the selling MGM will not take too much time (and that the new owners just leave the Bond pictures to the current powers that be). I really hope we don't get another 6 year wait like we did between LtK and GE.

Actually, I'm done with Bond as of now. No Clive Owen, and that's it. Connery, Lazenby & Brosnan- there are no others.

    For me it's easily Bond.

There's a number of reasons but the main one has to be that I cannot, not for the life of me, buy Damon in that particular role. I enjoy him when he's playing the insecure and / or rookie type (e.g. the 'Ocean's' series). But whenever I see him in Bourne (or recently in the 'Green Zone' trailer) I just keep wondering what the hell Damon is pretending he's a 'manly' action star.

Craig (as well as Brosnan, for that matter) really come across as 'men' in my mind. They've clearly left boyhood and youth behind them and moved way passed innocence in what they do and how they live - and they both really fit that kind of part (or those parts since Brosnan's and Craig's Bonds are quite different in many ways). Damon, however, always comes across as somewhat boyish in my mind. And thus, I just don't buy him in the part which makes the entire Bourne movie effort fall flat on its face for me.

EDIT: I should note that I was very disappointed by the Brosnan films overall even though I love Brosnan in the part. I think "Tomorrow Never Dies" is easily the best one (in no small part thanks to Michelle Yeoh whose given a proper role and her great chemistry with Brosnan). "Goldeneye" I found ok. But IMHO "The World is not Enough" and especially "Die Another Day" were just awful. DAD especially seemed to be reverting the franchise instead of moving it ahead, including some of the most annoying 'sleazy' talk (having, fittingly, one of the most uninteresting Bond girls ever in Berry) as well as going totally over the top in the gadget and action department.
I adore Craig's two Bonds, however. I think they easily rank amongst the best Bond movies in the series as a whole.

I'm with you. It'd be weird that Quantum of Solace was released a mere two years after Casino Royale but a third film will likely be some time after. I don't think we'll get a third Bond film in 2011... possibly 2012... unless the new owners of MGM fast-track the film. It would be quite something if the new owners decided to mess with the Bond franchise. Could they do that, though? Isn't the James Bond namesake safe & sound with the rights of the Broccoli family? That's why Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson are running the series, because they were appointed the rightful heirs, right? Or am I mistaken?

A lot of it banks on how quickly the sale goes. Considering they have been working on the story, an educated guess is that, by now, it is mostly worked out in the treatment form. If is a quick sale, then I can see the film resuming without missing a beat. If the sale is done by Spring, I can see Bond 23 out for a December 2011 release. If not until summer, then I can see Bond 23 for a Summer 2012 release.

Babs and Mike are the rightful heirs and have been doing a pretty good job. People have generally been enjoying their films and they have been making lots and lots of money.

But when has that stopped a studio from tinkering with something that doesn't need tinkering with? If a studio owns the franchise, they do have a say on what they want.

Hopefully, the new owners will go, "Okay, we own you, but you've been doing this for a billion years now and things always turn out good. We won't bother you."

I wonder if Christian Bale still wants a crack at Bond.

    Nice play on words. ;)

I think they would have a script by now. I wonder how Bond would fare in the summer. I think the last time we got a Bond film during the summer was License to Kill, right? I know there was some talk of releasing Quantum of Solace in May of 2008 until it was pushed back to November of 08.

The Brosnan films mostly sucked. However, I really have enjoyed Casino Royale & Quantum of Solace and I like the sort of bold creative choices they've been making, so whatever happened between Die Another Day and Casino Royale must have been somewhat radical.

Let's only hope that is what they say.

Bourne... based on the fact that all Bourne movies are good, while some Bond movies are good and others are bad.

(Of course, would there be 22 Bourne movies, there's a fair chance that some of them would be bad too.)

jason bourne shoots 007 in the head from range with a sniper rifle whilst Bond's sipping a martini in a bar.

    Bourne FTW.

Bourne's so awesome they had to ruin Bond by trying to copy him.

Rumour had it at one stage that he was reluctant to commit to Batman as, being a Brit, he hoped to play 007, arguably more iconic on that side of the pond. I'm glad he opted for Batman, as I think it's harder to cast him than Bond. There have been several great Bonds, but for me, Bale is the first actor to really get Batman right.

I think it's unlikely that Eon would cast him after he's been Batman but then again, Roger Moore was the Saint before he was 007.

    What about CHRISTOPHER Lambert?

    'De nem's Buhnd, Zhems Buhnd!'

With Sean Connery as (a Spanish) M, of course!
