Memory Alpha suggested that scans salvaged by the fleeing Kelvin crew lead to reverse engineering of what they saw that lead to an entirely different Enterprise to explain that discontinuity.

Was this ever mentioned in dialogue or is that a made up assumption?

This sounds like a made up assumption. A more logical theory is that the attack on the USS Kelvin prompted StarFleet to build a bigger, badder Enterprise and fleet in response.

It is something that the writers have said in interviews and Q&As.

I read that the engineer who originally did the Constitution-class was sucked out of a hull breach during the Kelvin attack, and the project was put on hold when originally it would've been completed in 2245. It was then picked back up again in the 2250's by the guy who in the prime universe would've done the refit Enterprise, which explains why the new ship looks like a cross between the two.

It's also so much bigger because the original designer (that got sucked out) was a woman and the new guy is a guy. He's compensating.

Nah, I think its slightly bigger in that they were trying to build a 2270's design in the 2250's. Less miniaturization = slightly bigger ship.

But the NuEnterprise looks more sophisticated than the TMP Enterprise, more like a 2290s ship with touch screen technology and flat panels embedded into the wall.

But they didn't explain the age differential for Chekov because if he said he was 22 in that episode with the Greek Gods, then he would have to be about 13 or 14 in Star Trek XI, not 17.

Chekov's age is different, yes. Must've been born earlier in this universe.

As for the NuEnterprise looking more sophisticated than the TMP design, I have to disagree. Sure, the interiors are a bit more slick, but you can't really go by that. As for touch screens, they had those during ENT, and probably TOS too.

I only watched the movie once so far, and I'm also lost on how the sub-space transport came into being.

I think Scotty couldn't figure it out, and old Spock leaked the right formula to get it right perhaps.

Yes that's exactly what happened on screen

If that becomes mainstream that change in technology would radically change alot of the storylines from the Prime Universe from TOS and onwards.

Well if they can get the targeting ability beyond aiming for a large open space in what their beaming to and hoping they don'y miss and either beaming into a floor, wall, ceiling, or space, that is.

Spock Prime, who operated the transporter and was left behind with Keenser, easily could have erased the equations for transwarp beaming as soon as Kirk and Scotty were on the Enterprise.

It makes more sense for the Federation to have the same kind of reaction as the 24th Century Federation when The Borg wrecked their shit.

Your probably reading this excerpt that has been on the web, Until some official book or something tells otherwise, it's as good as anything else.

You know the more hear that the more I think it doesn't make sense because it rests on two factors either Scotty didn't look over the equation enough to figure out what Spock did to make it work which he would have to do to make sure this wouldn't instantly kill him and Kirk or Scotty just forgot what he saw on the screen and remeber Scotty is a genius so memorizing it wouldn't be a problem. Sp Scotty could probably recreate the equation for transwarp beaming if he needed to.

Yes but, Scotty was observing Spock Pr. input the equation. Scotty even commented on where it was in the equation he had been wrong up to that point. I'm sure Scotty will easily reproduce the equation if Spock ereased it.

Many things in the NuTrek timeline was already changed anyway so who cares if they get sub-space beaming as well!

Most of that time he was jabbering about how impossible it was.
