TV and Media Avatar contest- By The Sword - no SF/F Right, - anything which involves non SF/F types in swordplay. So, you've got historical epics, modern spy flicks, and anything in between. From, say, Musketeers to Kill Bill, by way of Zorro, Gladiator, and lots of other things. *Not* Highlander, Conan, Merlin etc Say, by Thursday night, poll up on Friday. Can we have this thread pinned, in the hope of attracting more entries?
But that's SF/fantasy... Think more of... Musketeers, the Man in the Iron Mask, Kill Bill, Zorro, Samurai movies, Scaramouche, Monte Cristo, The Duellists, Die Another Day, Zenda, Gladiator, Hornblower, etc etc
No offense to the original poster, but this category will probably cause lots of problems, because with items like swords, so prevalent in historical AND fantasy, a lot of people will use those films which have a little of both. Highlander is a perfect example. There was once a swords category in the sci fi foprum some time ago
What about Braveheart and Rob Roy? The Robin Hood films and TV adaptations? [Braveheart was pure fantasy. - someone]
I figure there's enough historical swordplay, samurai, and modern martial arts movies out there that there's lots of option for non-SF/F stuff. Speaking of which, I think I'll enter this:
You guys missed my point. Of course there's enough non-sci fi stuff, but I'm saying that you should expect a lot of stuff that is sci fi to appear from posters who aren't thinking.. or stuff that's on the borderline.
Then I must make it clearer. While trying not be distracted by thoughts of entering O-Ren or indeed Lucy Liu...
Undead, living deities, spells, supernatural monsters... Sounds like fantasy to me. I'm tempted to allow it just cos it's such a cool picture, but... I'm also tempted to just scrap the bloody contest if it's making people quit
Well that was the point I was trying to make earlier. I didn't mean any offense by it. I was just saying that it treads so close that a lot of people will be having to change their original submissions in order to qualify for the contest as written.
