We know the GoF's a timedoor better than the backs of our hands But.......................... Remember the dialogue from “The City on the Edge of Forever”: Spock: “If I am correct, a doorway to other times & dimensions” The GoF: “As is correct for you. For your level of understanding.” I think I remembered that scene's words >90% right yes? So, based on how The GoF answered Spock's inquiry: Can The GoF be used to travel to/from alternate|parallel universes & etc? Think of the places available then- Mirror Universe(s), alternate universes from “Parallels”, fluidic space, the Q Continuum & etc, etc Of course, most, if not all, of the other universe's would have GoFs as well
Re: The GUARDIAN of FOREVER: a gateway to alternate/parallel universes Well, I've never really thought about it, but I don't see why not.
Re: The GUARDIAN of FOREVER: a gateway to alternate/parallel universes We could use the Guardian to correct any problems in the timeline not cleaned up at the end of the next movie.
Re: The GUARDIAN of FOREVER: a gateway to alternate/parallel universes There you go I hope J.J. Abrams leaves The GoF's appearance alone, should he dare decide to go anywhere near it. And hopefully he won't. If ST XI turns out to be uber-craptacular, I hope we could use The GoF to go back & nip Trek 11 in it's bud, before it was ever thought up, ala The TERMINATOR (1984)
Re: The GUARDIAN of FOREVER: a gateway to alternate/parallel universes A new timeline IS an alternate reality. That's something a lot of people don't consider.
Re: The GUARDIAN of FOREVER: a gateway to alternate/parallel universes Indeed. So technically, Kirk and company were in an alternate reality the moment Bones went back through the portal and the Enterprise vanished, the Guardian just protected them much as the Enterprise-E was protected by the sphere's temporal wake in 'Star Trek: First Contact.'
Re: The GUARDIAN of FOREVER: a gateway to alternate/parallel universes Well, there's at least one parallel timeline at play in each of its various appearances, and this doesn't seem to have been much of a problem for its displayed function, so it seems to me it must have this capability. It may be able to transport users along a variety of timelike and spacelike axes with which Trek science is not yet familiar.
Re: The GUARDIAN of FOREVER: a gateway to alternate/parallel universes If anyone takes "Of Gods And Men" or "In Harm's Way" into account, then probably yes.
Re: The GUARDIAN of FOREVER: a gateway to alternate/parallel universes Yes, but its inaccessible as there's now a Starfleet starbase (and I assume an attached battle-group or small task force) in orbit protecting the GoF. http://stexpanded.wikia.com/wiki/Guardian_of_Forever http://startrek.wikia.com/wiki/Gateway_(planet)
Re: The GUARDIAN of FOREVER: a gateway to alternate/parallel universes ^ I didn't know we were fanficcing. Well, in that case I am the Chief of Staff at Starfleet Command, and hereby promote the OP so he can access the Guardian. Wheee.
Re: The GUARDIAN of FOREVER: a gateway to alternate/parallel universes In that case, can I, the Praetor of the Romulan Star Empire, have a look at your top secret database, Mr. Starfleet Chief of Staff? I promise I won't steal 'nuthin.
Re: The GUARDIAN of FOREVER: a gateway to alternate/parallel universes You had the exact same reaction I did to that fanfixing reply Aficionadofic is 4 floors down Effing hilarious! PS: The elevator must've been broken
Re: The GUARDIAN of FOREVER: a gateway to alternate/parallel universes ok check your PMs In all seriousness, the violent time distortions emanating from the planet in "City on the Edge of Forever" always made it seem unlikely to me that there'd be a permanent orbital installation or local ship patrol or anything along these lines. Who knows what would happen to people, ships or stations after being exposed to those strange energies for weeks, months, or years? I'm as curious as the next guy, but could certainly understand Starfleet giving it a wide berth for these practical reasons, even beyond those piddling questions about changing history
Re: The GUARDIAN of FOREVER: a gateway to alternate/parallel universes I will WOO..HOO..100 MINT copies of Action Comics #1, 500 MINT copies of HULK #181 AND 500 COPIES of every issue of MIRACLEMAN # 7-16. I'll corner the comic market! MWA...HA..HA...HAAA!
Re: The GUARDIAN of FOREVER: a gateway to alternate/parallel universes He won't, and he can't, because if you even so much as mention the Guardian Harlan Ellison will beat your mother and demand royalties. In that order. Basically anyone in this thread should call their mother to see how she's doing. Seriously, he's an ass.
Re: The GUARDIAN of FOREVER: a gateway to alternate/parallel universes QFT. Not to turn this into a 'what the hell's wrong with Harlan Ellison thread' but... What the hell's wrong with Harlan Ellison?
