Absolutely you can render animation in blender. That's how Bill rendered the weapons bay sequences for Mitchell's ship in Of Gods and Men.

The trick is to separate the render into lighting layers for a proper composite. The more layers the better. Key light layer, backlight layer, layer for windows, etc...

The more layers are available to a compositor like myself, the more finite control we have to make a more photo realistic appearance. In STOGAM, we had to limit the numbers of layers we had for time, but I think we db with the time we had.

    Something I was messing with...

I figured the Klingons could have some JJ treatment as well. :) Plus, the Enterprise needs something to shoot at.

The Engine Nacelles are going to be underslung at the end of the wings, so that they are partially covered, not mounted on the end like the original version.

    I'd call this 15% done.

    YAY! *excited fast clap*

Maybe you could base your Bird of Prey (if you make one) after my design.

I love the new Klingon ship, though I agree that red or orange engine glow would be more "klingony".

That does fit with the overall style.

Hmm, Dull red orange I think will do the trick.

    Thanks!

OK, I can't leave this thing alone. :)

I fixed the Shuttle Bay, to match what the toy looks like a little better, and I also went ahead and fixed the little square part on the back of the engine covers.

The big change, is that I inset the impulse engines. I saw this done over at scifi-meshes, by Tobias Richter over there. I thought it was a good idea...

Maybe one day I will quit messing with it after I call it done. :)

    Marvelous, freaking marvelous.

And I've never seen such great work on Blender before.

I'd love to see what you could do with something like Maya.
