Wait, now it's not just a world organization but a higher-than-top secret organization to boot? It's pretty much just going to be G. I. Joe in name only.

The moment GI Joe ceased to be "An American Hero" I decided I will not be seeing this movie.

If this movie doesn't end with a "and knowing's half the battle" PSA, then I'm boycotting, dammit! :scream: :)

I wanna' say fuck this movie so badly, because almost everything about it reeks.

    Almost everything.

All I've seen of Snake Eyes is so right. I wanna' see Snake Eyes.

    Most words ever.

And "The Rise of Cobra"? **gag** Of course, I'm biased, I hate "Rise of..." 's

I assume TVR is some marketing term?

Snake Eyes looks good, the whole poster should be him with a simple GI JOE August 14 at the bottom. Maybe they will for the non toy fair version.

heck, the got the tattoo right (if it is a tattoo anyway) which is something the toon didn't even do at all.

Of course, Snakes was pretty much a non-entity in the toon anyways.

It's GI Joe against Cobra and Destro
    Fighting to save the day.
    He never gives up.
    He's always there,
Fighting for freedom over land and air

GI Joe -- A real South American, African, Asian, European and Australian hero
    GI Joe is there

Hmm. I-Ching hexagram on the blade. Either 63 or 64, depending on whether it's meant to be read with the point of the blade up or down - "Already Fording" or "Not-Yet Fording", denoting 'Completion' or 'Incompletion', respectively. Comprised, in both forms, of both Flame and Water, with only the order inversed. I wonder what message that communicates about the nature of the villain...

...or, more likely, they probably just drew something that looked cool. :borg:

    Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman

I think it was the second season here in Canada, the song was changed to "International Hero".

IIRC, it's supposed to represent the attainment of order and harmony.

Yeah, that was the start of the end for the name. "G.I. Joe" is a 100% American term referring 100% to American troops. A British trooper is not a G.I. Joe. An Austrian trooper is not a G.I. Joe. A Pakistani trooper is not a G.I. Joe. Hell, even a Canadian trooper isn't a G.I. Joe.

Trying to make it global rather than keeping it American is going to have the exact opposite effect of what they want. Do you think all those people around the world who hate Americans are suddenly going to like having their countrymen called a G.I. Joes? A direct and long-standing synonym for an American? Especially those who hate Americans because they try to push their values and policies on everyone around the world?

It's ten times worse than having the Last Samurai being Tom Cruise for crying out loud.

yeah, but with the exception (to start with) of Britain, GI Joe toys have been sold around the world as GI Joe. and in Britain after they switched from 'Action Force International Heroes' to GI Joe, tehy were still repackaging the toys with altered file cards giving the characters British birth places and backgrounds.

August? Doesn't say much that they're releasing this movie during the dregs of the summer season.

This'll be the next thing to rape our childhoods after Trek XI.

While this is typically true, apparently the movie company is trying an "experiment." They plan to release this thing "in an attempt to expand the summer blockbuster season." While I don't think the movie will be very good, it does have a hefty budget, and I don't think they're dumping it in no man's land to take a loss. I think they want to open it against weak competition.
