Thank you! Gods of Night was in the mail today, so tonight I will be reading! I'm already looking forward to it! Tea and a book = perfection! :P *Adds experimental Mark XII phaser cannons to the "to do" list.
Erm, David, shouldn't they be described as "Type XII" phasers? I thought torpedoes were designated as "Mark x" ??
Well the passage did say they were experimental, although it didn't say if th actual tech was experimental, or the deployment of it on the Vesta Class or just even the Aventine. Also I apologise for that mix-up David, I was working off memory alone and when I read Phaser Cannon, I assumed they'd be like what Defiant has, as that's what they've been described as, more a pulse than a straight line.
Those designs are pretty close to what I had in my head when reading. I figure that it probably has some similaries with the Prometheus, Nova, and Luna classes.
Answer #1: Not necessarily. Because these are experimental weapons on a ship full of test-bed systems, perhaps the Mark XII phaser cannon represents a fusion of the two technologies. Answer #2: Probably. If you don't buy answer #1, chalk it up as one of my myriad tiny flaws in the trilogy.
Here is another Concept sketch for the Aventine, This time I tried a different Nacell Configuration compared to the first four ideas. Enjoy http://hammerheadgraphics.iwarp.com/AventineConcept5.jpg
Cool, that's my favorite so far! I just started Gods of Night last night, and I'm glad I came by this thread before I did, it's really helpfull to have a general idea of what the ship looks like beforehand.
It can look like whatever you want it to. Me, I'm seeing the Dauntless, but with a less-frowning saucer, more definition between the saucer and engineering hull, and longer nacelles on downward sloping pylons.
Amazingly that was exactly like I imagined it. You're not reading my thoughts are you (the Luna Class is pretty much exactly as I pictured it in Taking Wing too).
Geee... This is a hard decision. I also like the other designs too but this one kind of smacks them out of the way now. This is close to the others. Still wondering if the upswing nacelles is better.
I don't remember if anyone has mention the Aventine's Registry Number or not. Does anyone know it? So I can place it on my vector Illustration.
Sean I really like the latest Picture you gave us, I was thinking that maybe the design for the nacelles should be a little simpler.
Actually that design is the first one I am working into a vector image. But i am using the nacelles from my third sketch. I will post it when I get a chance to start on it.
Here is the first W.I.P. Vector Shot of one idea from the Aventine. Note these is by no means final art. http://hammerheadgraphics.iwarp.com/AventineVectorWIP1.jpg
