I never realized this before, but Bateson's first officer looks a lot like Marcia Gay Harden. Her IMDb profile doesn't list it, but even Memory Alpha doesn't know who the actress is.

^^Supposedly they wanted the first officer to be Kirstie Alley/Saavik (which would also be a Cheers reunion of sorts), but it was reported that her schedule was such that it couldn't happen.

Last night on "Fringe" the crazy scientist was taking research papers out of an old car he was storing them in and sitting on the back seat was a sombrero.

I have a shiny silver sombrero sitting on the shelf behind my back seat.

I found it in the attic at my dad's place

Maybe Abrams, Kurtzman, and Orci are sending us a sign?

I won't be convinced that this was anything more than simply a coincidence until someone on Lost will be eating an avocado while wearing a sombrero...

    ...or if I see this:

What was the crazy scientist's name?

^^ I didn't watch Fringe this week, but I assume it was Dr. Walter Bishop, whose character is the father of Joshua Jackson's character. He IS a crazy scientist (literally) on Fringe.

However, I don't really follow where we are going with this :).

I was just looking for clues, but you're probably correct in assuming that it's merely coincidence of sombrero incidence.

Now, if the crazy scientist character had been named, say, Cogley, then I might be inclined to suspect that Abrams, et al, really were trying to send a message.

^^Ahh...I thought you knew of some connection between Star Trek and Dr. Bishop -- or his name -- that went right over my head (which wouldn't be unprecedented, by the way).

I think the sombrero COULD have been deliberate, but as I said before I would need a second instance of sombreros to convince me.

No connection of which I'm aware, but I suppose someone with enough initiative and sufficient free time could probably construct a multi-dimensional "six degrees of sombrero separation" matrix capable of connecting anyone (living, dead or perhaps just a little frayed around the edges) to the new movie (or even to a pastrami and Swiss sandwich on rye.)

    Yes... with mustard, please. :)

    BRILLIANT

Everytime I sit in my backyard I notice the sombrero hanging in the kitchen across the alley. I think cute girls live there too.

One of these days I'll start a conversation. Don't worry, I'll make it as hilarious and awkward as possible by starting with "I couldn't help but notice your sombrero" and including the words "sombreroprise" and "star trek message board" in the following sentence.

I'm quite frankly scared by some of the recent photos people are posting. Sombreros and scary "redneck" type people is not a good combination.

You'd think it'd be funny only once, but no...it gets funnier and funnier every time I see it.
