I would have to go reread the short story, but I believe Quantum of Solace is a big latinized nothing that means "make-up sex." And, in line with the themesong:
Again, I'd have to pull out the short story. Maybe if I trek into my library tomorrow, I'll post the condensed definition. Make-up sex. Just go with it.
"Quantum" means the smallest amount of something; the study of subatomic particles and such is called quantum physics. "Solace" means, obviously, comfort. In the short story it's used as a term to define the one thing that every human relationship needs in order to survive: a tiny amount of compassion. Once it's gone, the relationship is dead.
And because what she did to him was so heinous, he wasn't interested in make-up sex, and thus the Quantum of Solace in their relationship was extinguished.
