Correction: the Steamrunner is a T5 only. It's being released as a regular C-store ship rather than the Steam exclusive it was before, alongside its T1 version and console. The model was updated, but the stats are the same. If only it had been T6... I love that ship.

FYI, the new lighting is Direct X 11 only. So make sure you have that enabled in the Display menu for next Thursday

That is, if you have a computer that can use DX11

Been playing nothing but this on PS4. Lvl 54? I think, but def hit a few bugs. When I unlocked the Solane Dyson Sphere, it also unlocked the delta quadrant missions simultaneously. I completed some dyson sphere mission today with Tuvok and it kinda led to the whole dyson sphere in the delta quadrant thing, which is why now Im thinking the Delta Quadrant missions accidently unlocked early for me.

Im also having trouble with two klingons missions, one is called Test of Mettle, and I think the other Tour of Duty. The first mission requires you to go to the first fleet shipyard. I head to Qo'nos and there is no prompt for me to enter Quo'nos or anywhere else. The second mission says to speak to J'mpek in the Great Hall, but again I cant even get onto Quo'nos. Hopefully they will patch it.

Im currently I think at the end of the Borg War Episode, about a third of the way through the Delta Quadrant Missions, and almost done with the Solane Dyson Sphere missions. Ive been slowing it down the last few days because I realized (or at least I think I realized) that I'm finished almost all of the available missions. Wanted to have something new to go back to to keep me interested lol.

I also spent about $30 on Zen Coins trying to get a kelvin Constitution class from a Kelvin Lockbox. Got a bunch of weapons and dilithium and traits and things but no ship. Now I'm trying to grind ECs to just buy one on the exchange. I have 2.5 mil and it costs 60 or 80 mil lol. I have a long way to go. Still kinda ticked I can spend $30 on lockboxes and not get a single ship. And there is no option to just buy the ship through the C store. Such a waste.

Is Star Trek Online worth it? I love MMOs but am always a bit suspicious at first. Is it another Pay To Win game? Is the subscription fee a lot of money? What makes it a good MMO? What makes it unique? Why do you play it above other MMOs?

I would love to get in to another MMO and it would be cool to be able to play Star Trek as well as watch it.

Oh, so T6 Souvereign is finally coming? Then I might know what I use my accumulated stipend for eventually.

T6 Sovereign was revealed a few weeks ago, though not by Cryptic, there is a version of it coming with one of those Table Top miniature models.

If you're a fan of Star Trek, the answer is yes. It's worth playing through all the story missions.

    Short answer: Mostly no.

Long answer: There are two phases in the game, the leveling up phase and the end-game phase.

The leveling up phase consist of playing the main story-arc missions, which should get you to level 50+ in about 1 week to a month (depending on how much you play everyday). You are given a free ship at levels 10, 20, 30 and 40. If you are a subscriber, you also get another free ship at level 50. So during this phase, you don't have to pay anything and there are lots of players who do this to enjoy STO's story.

When you hit level 60, which is STO's end-game levels , you may want to invest in a better ship if you decide to stick with the game for the long term. An end-game ship costs either $25 or $30, but certain ships can be further upgraded with either a Ship Upgrade Token or a Fleet Ship Module (both costs another $5 ). Theoretically you are set after that and don't need to spend anymore money. Also note that playing end-game stuff earns you dilithium, which can be converted into PWE's Zen currency. So if you play a lot and collect a lot of dilithium, it is possible to buy ships without spending a single dollar.

If you're like me and just love collecting beautiful looking or powerful ships, then yeah that's when the game can become potentially expensive. In the first year, I splurged on a lifetime subscription ($100+) but in return I get a monthly stipend of 500 Zen which allows me to buy a ship for free every half a year.

Starship based MMOs are very rare. There are only two main choices, Eve Online or Star Trek Online. I picked STO over Eve because Eve requires a huge investment in money and time.

STO is like Lord Of The Rings Online where there's a continuing storyline. At times, the story can be quite epic in scope dealing with a galaxy-wide war and now a temporal war.

STO is not a traditional MMO like World of Warcraft that targets hardcore players who play everyday and strive to be the best of the best. STO is aimed at trek fans who may have never played any MMOs. As a result, STO is very casual-oriented MMO. You do not have to play everyday. The main storyline is almost like a single-player campaign, its possible to group up for missions but most players don't. You don't even have to optimize your character much. There are no hour-long end-game raids. Instead, STO's endgame consists of 20-30 minute "queued events" runs with a random group of 5 players.

I think @intrinsical is on point with that assessment of STO. I actually bought an Xbox One primarily because I heard it was getting an STO port. I have not been disappointed. It's taken me a while to get the hang of the game because I'm not experienced with MMORPGs, but I've definitely improved (also helps that there are players on TrekBBS who will give you tips and advice).

As far as investing real money into it goes, that really seems to depend on the player. For instance, I have shelled out a little bit for cosmetic stuff, like alternate uniforms. And pretty soon I'm going to spend about $30 for the Pathfinder science vessel, which I expect will get me through the end-game and beyond. Now, do I want to pay even more money so that I can have the Voyager interiors? Maybe. It's that kind of stuff. But as far as I can tell, you could play this game without spending a dime, if you're cool with the stuff the game just gives you through gameplay and if you can resist the temptation of the wealth of better ships, extras and alternate skins/costumes and so on.

Thanks Instrinsical and Balok :) I actually downloaded it and started playing. Quite cool and fun. Does the meeting up with other players and stuff happen later in the game? Or is there a button somewhere? Its just right now Im doing a storyline in what feels like a single player game... not that I mind as I am actually enjoying it quite alot. :techman::hugegrin:

It has a HUGE amount of powercreep

STO is directed towards the uber casual gamer and as such it's virtually impossible to fail anything (of all the missions/queues I think there's only one or two that have have a failure option). People have done end game content with mid level ships... Some have even done it with the starter ships.

If you're the type of person who puts thought into their builds, you'll probably find the majority of content easy.

PvP wise don't bother. The huge amount of power creep has rendered it immensely unenjoyable.

    It's F2P and Star Trek.

    It's incredibly easy.

So easy that people get bored and start doing dps races and solo runs.

It's Star Trek and free. While there are a lot of MMO's out there, most of them are high fantasy, which just doesn't appeal to me. That, or they're sci-fi MMO's where you're just a ship.

I am trying to remember. There was some Trek product coming out that contained a card with a code for a free ship but for the life of me I cannot recall what the product is. Does anyone remember?

    Yep. All of this.

I used to love PvP. Back in the early days of the MMO, PvP was a hell of a lot of fun, but now? Yeah, there are players that can one shot kill me no matter what I do, so I don't do it anymore. It's no fun at all when people can do that.

Comes with a T6 Command Variant Sovereign.

No, Free-to-play games on PS4 don't require a PS Plus subscription.
