I recently discovered it and am currently at season 6. SO far my favorite sci fi reference was the episode with Leonard Nimoys voice in Sheldons dream. Unfortunately Nimoy didn't make an appearance but he voiced a Mego Spock figure and it was hilarious.

Anyone like the show and have a favorite episode or sci fi reference.

I love the Big Bang Theory and am looking forward to the season finale two hours from now.

As for favorite sci-fi reference . . . Good Lord, where to begin? But I was impressed when they had Sheldon get upset because "Alphas" was canceled on a cliffhanger because that was a pretty obscure one to throw at a general audience.

I also loved the ep where Penny, Bernadette, and Amy got into an argument about how Thor's hammer worked . . ..

I liked it a lot in the first year or two but then the show became more mainatream and the "nerds" in the show became more of a laughing at them instead of laughing with them.

I love the show. My favorite sci-fi reference is when Sheldon had that dream with the Gorn. Hilarious stuff.

Huge fan of the show. I know a lot of scifi nerds get really annoyed with it for whatever reason, and try to dismiss it as just another dumb Two and a Half Men, but the writing is actually a helluva lot more clever and witty than that. And the characters and performances are sharp and funny as hell too.

I just picked up on this within the last couple of years...never watched the series in full but have seen most of them at least once because of the prevalence of syndicated reruns. The two classic favorite episodes that stick out in my mind are the episode that Penny and Sheldon go to war, and the first Wil Wheaton episode with the TWOK send-up....

I like Big Bang Theory a lot, although its been getting weaker over the last few seasons, and its definitely laughing at instead of with nerds more and more. The latest season has probably been the weakest so far, but its still had good points.

Love it. Currently my favorite sitcom. The science and science fiction jokes and references are usually spot on. If fact, I wonder if the writers use this BBS as source material. Sometimes the conversations between the characters sound like far too many exchanges here.

I enjoy it for all the trek, sf, and comic book references. Also, Nathan Fillion, Summer Glau, and Will Wheaton have all appeared as themselves. Not to mention Neil deGrasse Tyson, Steven Hawking and others.
Plus, I get to explain all the jokes to my husband who has no experience with anything trek, sf, or comic books. Wait, that is also a hassle.

That's the episode with Nimoys voice that I mentioned. Excellent episode.

I loved the one where Katee Sackhoff was in the bathtub with Howard, asking him why he preferred fantasizing about a fictional woman when there was a real one waiting for him.

Since I don't want to be chastised for linking that particular scene with its subject matter, I'll use this one instead. ;)

The show isn't as funny as it used to be, but I still watch it out of habit at this point. I do laugh occasionally. I always thought the show was a lot funnier when none of them had girlfriends and Penny was completely unattainable. When it moved from a "nerds do nerdy things" comedy to "lets laugh at nerds in relationships" comedy, I started to lose interest.

The main problem I have with the show is Sheldon. We all have annoying friends who we tolerate, but I don't understand how all these characters let a man-child run their entire lives. Everything anybody does revolves around how Sheldon feels at that exact moment, and except for Leonard, I doubt if Sheldon would even care if any of them died.

From what little I've seen, Sheldon comes across as nothing more than trying to be the "ultimate fanboy". So the show really has little interest for me...despite having hottie guest appearances by Summer Glau and Katee Sackoff.

Well first its a comedy so Sheldon being a genius man child is part of the character, Second Sheldon does care about the rest and would care if one of his friends dies. When Howard went to space ant they were all watching the liftoff on TV Sheldon grabbed Amys hand because he was worried for Howards safety. Remember that Sheldon is emotionally stunted but as the series progresses he gets some mores socially normal.

It goes up and down in quality. There was a big dip at the start of season 5, then it recovered. The first half of this current season was another serious dip, but now it's back on track again. As sitcoms go, it has some of the most fun characters and relationships I've seen. But it is a shame that the geek humor has been dialed back so much since the early days.

He better develop as a character or the show might have tanked when sentiments flipped against him.

He can come off as a superjerk and still does at times so it's good that they occasionally show that Sheldon does care about his friends (greatly) and very occasionally even does selfless things.

In reality though i guess i'd have given such a friend the boot because the ratio is very skewed to him being an ass (doesn't matter that most of the time he doesn't realize it).

Now that the finale for this season has aired.. wow!

Damn that was a relationship bomb episode that both highlights what's become good and bad about the show.

I started watching the show because it simply assumed that its viewers would get the many scientific and nerd culture jokes and i believe many did. I enjoyed them very much because it was a little bit different in treating its viewer as intelligent and knowledgeable and didn't linger in explaining the joke.. you either got it or you didn't.

However any show or basically anything that doesn't evolve is doomed to fail but BBT did that really well when they introduced Amy and Bernadette to widen the scope and both additions proved very funny once they found the center of the character. However by this point the show was a ratings juggernaut and has broken well into mainstream so what made the show unique got less attention if favor of relationship humor (which was still very funny).

You can accept that it's still a very funny show or that it has lost its roots, an argument can be made for both sides.

However this one went full in and changed nearly every relationship.

I love Amy finally standing up to Sheldon and pulling the cord on their relationship, that was past time and at least for me it stood for all the friends finally showing Sheldon the red line.
However Sheldon being prepared to propose came as a really big shock (a good one) because no one expected THAT to happen so soon (IF they go with it somehow imagine the wedding night ).

Sheldon's unwitting hand in Penny's and Leonard's relationship also proved quite fruitful as he forced them to ask "hard" questions and finally move forward (loved the moment when Penny realized she really loves her little fella and proposed the Vegas plan). It was marred a bit by Leonard's confession which i felt was unnecessary and the storyline made little sense in them running away without all of their friends to attend the wedding (i'm sure they would have loved a road trip to Vegas). We'll see what happens next season.

Raj and Emily was the weakest development because they returned to the comfortable "Raj is a pussy"part of his character. I'm sad that Emily is apparently on the way out of the show because she seemed like a fun character, the actress played it well and is so hot (redheads!). I hope Raj finds the balls to either confront her and talk it out and be a man and end it. I'm sad that they didn't make her a permanent character.. i'd love to see her dark side clash with Sheldon.

Howard/Bernadette vs. Stuart was the weakest link, it seemed like they couldn't come up with a good story revolving around personal relationships and didn't want those two sit the finale out.

Anyway.. a very good finale that moved nearly all relationships forward in a big way and i can't wait to see some of the resolutions, especially Sheldon and Amy.

Im on season 6 and the geek humor is still there. I love the episode where they are on their way to the comic con and stop to take some pictures dressed as TNG characters. Its friggin hilarious. I will be on 7 soon so I guess I will see.
