I've seen better dressed homeless men than this Doctor Doom.

I kind of like it. At least he actually has a mask and the green hood here. It almost looks kind of organic.

I'm not going to jump straight to assuming that it is an actual photo of the new Doom...but if it is, two things come to mind.

    1. Looks like shit.
    2. No worse than I am expecting.

I quite like it and I'm sure it'll look a lot better once SFX, appropriate lighting etc have been added.

That's his evening attire. "Boris, I'm ready for my nightcap."

It doesn't appear to have any markers for motion capture but, even if it did, it wouldn't make sense to do such a full costume unless any version in post-production looked the same.

If they just had the cape act more as a cloak (and cover his shoulders) it would look better. Right there, it's extremely underwhelming.

I also had thought Dooms armor might be mo-cap upon first seeing it yesterday. Alidar makes a good point though about the suit not having markers on it for alignment.
If that is the suit I'm still underwhelmed as I was about this production.

it kinda reminds me of the armor he wore during the Mark Waid run of FF.

That makes sense. It's much softer competition.

I'm sure Guardians inspired them to move it as well. I loved Guardians, but it didn't hurt it staying up so long (and returned after dropping, iirc) that it went up against a lot of shit.

They actually use terms like "GROUNDED" and "GRITTY"

I'm trying to imagine Jessica Elba in those S.H.I.E.L.D. leathers that Cobie Smulders wears in the Avengers movies.

(In the comics that's what Sue wears now, as she hunts Mr. Fantastic for being a Super Villain.)

Sorry Kate, you're TV pretty, not movie Pretty like Jessica, you're going to have do a hell of a job to compete with... Well, to start with maybe try to make a movie slightly better than the festering turd Jessica weathered.

You just have to beat 3 stars out of ten.

    Silver Surfer blowed harder.

Ironically, I'm liking Forever at the moment because of what a know it all, head in the clouds, super genius Ioan Gruffud is playing who seems about 40 times smarter than Reed was ten years back... Wait? Am I forgetting a fake American accent or were they claiming that people from New England and England sound the same?

If it's gritty and grounded, then I guess I have to see it. These guys really speak my language.

I still can't believe they filmed the entire damn movie without any pictures leaking. They must not have done a single second of location shooting. Which doesn't bode well for a "gritty" and "realistic" look...

I don't know what mindset you must have to make a film about a team called the FANTASTIC Four and then go and make it gritty and realistic.

Richard Matheson's philosophy for writing fantasy was to include just one impossible element and keep everything around it as naturalistic as possible, to make it easier to suspend disbelief about the fantastic part. Richard Donner took the same approach to Superman; although the plot and the superpowers were as fanciful as anything in a Silver Age comic, Donner shot the film and directed the performances very naturalistically, rather than going for the exaggerated visuals and acting of something like the '66 Batman. There is no validity to the notion that fantasy is incompatible with realism.

Part of the problem with the Tim Story Fantastic Four movies is that they didn't play it straight enough, that they took a jokey and vaguely spoofy tone and didn't really make us care about the characters. The heart of the Fantastic Four is character, the drama and interplay among the members of this extended family. If we can't believe in the Four as people, if we don't have that realistic human grounding, it makes it harder to buy into the weird powers and crazy scenarios.

I agree, Christopher, I just hope that this new movie doesn't go too far in the other direction.

The bridge scene is what did my head in.

They all #### up royally causing a monumental disaster, barely zero summing it, yet somehow the press calls them heroes and not rampaging monsters.
