Super Bowl 'Star Trek XI'

Star Trek XI will join the list of summer movies that will have an ad appearing during this year's Super Bowl.

As reported by Variety, the Super Bowl, airing on February first on NBC, will include an ad for Star Trek XI. Star Trek XI will be released in May.

Other high profile movies will join Star Trek XI in the roster of Super Bowl ads. Confirmed are ads for the following movies in addition to Star Trek XI: Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, G.I. Joe, Angels and Demons, Monsters vs. Aliens and Land of the Lost. In addition, Pixar's Up and a Wolverine ad will probably be seen in Super Bowl ads.

The cost for a thirty-second ad on the Super Bowl is said to be three million dollars. Movie studios may have received a reduced rate due to the desire of NBC to fill all sixty-seven ad slots. The pricey ads will be seen by millions of viewers. Last year's Super Bowl was seen be ninety-seven million viewers.

^ Aren't you special...

This is big. You want buzz? Get an ad in the SuperBowl. The suits at Paramount must really like what they've seen of this movie.

I have zero interest in the Super Bowl and baseball (or is super bowl American football ?) but as I've understood over the years getting an add there is a big deal.

So I say cool and good for Trek

American football -- it's the NFL championship game, and it's about as high-profile as it gets, U.S. TV ad-wise. Lots of people who care nothing whatsoever about the sport or the outcome of the game will be paying attention to what gets shown in the commercial breaks.

Really? Since when did building hype with a bowl ad equate to quality? Remember that .com sock puppet ad? So the risk here, is there is so much expectation built up, the movie is 'over marketed'?

Will it be one of the two out there now or a new one? If they stick with the ones that are done, I'll bet it's the one with Nimoy at the end. However, I hope it's a new one with unseen footage.

As I understand it from a friend of mine who used to work in the NYC office of Paramount, it's likely to only be a 30 second spot, because of the high cost of getting an ad.

I'm hoping that it's 30 seconds of images we have yet to see, and not a re-hash from the existing trailers.

Actually I read recently that American Idol is replacing the SuperBowl for the buzz factor.

I remember that for a 30 second spot the average cost is around 1.9 million dollars.

I never forget the Apple Superbowl commercial wear the girl breaks through the buffed door guards and throws the slinged hammer at that hugh Orwellian big brother screen...

...WOW!

To see that for the very first time buzzing on prime hydro and Ripple ...all heads are turning, like WTF just happened. Funny I only saw it that one time but every now and then I'll recall it vividly. But people talked about it for weeks afterword.
