Trek Fans Pay Final Respects To Barrett-Roddenberry

Friends, family and Star Trek fans gathered on Sunday to say farewell to Majel Barrett-Roddenberry, who passed away last month.

As reported by TrekMovie.com, a crowd of approximately three hundred came to the memorial service held at the Hall of Liberty at Forest Lawn in the Hollywood Hills on Sunday.

Co-stars from the original series who had worked with Barrett-Roddenberry were in attendance, including Nichelle Nichols, Walter Koenig and George Takei. Actors from the other four Star Trek series were on hand too, as well as other Star Trek veterans such as Rick Berman, David Gerrold and D.C. Fontana.

Speakers at the service spoke of Barrett-Roddenberry's generosity and her love for animals, which found her frequently bringing home stray animals. Her boisterous spirit was noted and former assistant to Gene Roddenberry, Richard Arnold related the story of how she got the role of Lwaxana Troi, saying that her husband told her, "We have the perfect part for you...and you won't even have to act!"

The memorial concluded with a video tribute of Barrett-Roddenberry's work, including a short clip from Star Trek XI where her voice can be heard as the voice of the computer.

Barrett-Roddenberry's son "Rod" Roddenberry announced that a contribution would be made to the San Diego Zoo for what will be the "Majel Barrett-Roddenberry Tiger Maternity Ward," in recognition of Barrett-Roddenberry's love of animals. He also announced that the Celestis Memorial Spaceflights would fly the ashes of both Gene and Majel Roddenberry into space in 2012.

Sounds like a wonderful memorial... I wish I could have been there, but I know a lot of fans were there in spirit.

Majel was a warm, personable and good hearted woman. I'm not surprised so many wanted to pay their respects.
You will be missed, Majel. You were one classy lady.
