Majel Barrett-Roddenberry Passes
Majel Barrett Roddenberry widow of Gene Roddenberry, died today at her home in Bel Air, California.
As reported by Access Hollywood, Barrett-Roddenberry died after battling leukemia, which was diagnosed earlier this year. Her son Rod was by her side. Majel Lee Hudac was born in Cleveland, Ohio on February 23, 1932. After moving to California in the 1950s, she found roles in shows such as Bonanza, The Untouchables, The Lucy Show, Leave it to Beaver and The Lieutenant as well as her work on Star Trek. Barrett-Roddenberry appeared on the original Star Trek pilot, The Cage where she played the role of Number One. That role was not continued into the series when it was picked up, but Barrett-Roddenberry changed her hair color and became nurse Christine Chapel. She also appeared in Star Trek: The Voyage Home reprising her role. For Star Trek: The Next Generation Barrett-Roddenberry portrayed the Betazoid Lwaxana Troi, mother of counselor Deanna Troi. In addition to acting roles in Star Trek, Barrett-Roddenberry did voice work, in the Animated Series and she was the voice of the computer for several of the Star Trek movies, including the forthcoming Star Trek XI. The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her name to the CARE Organization or Precious Paws both of which share Roddenberry's love for animals and dedication to animal rescue. Re: Majel Barrett-Roddenberry Passes
Wow, I had no idea she was even sick.
I'm so sorry to see she's gone. I had the honor of seeing her in person at the Vegas Con. I also walked behind her from the casino to the elevators. It was the most exciting "celebrity sighting" I'd ever experienced.
She will be missed.

Re: Majel Barrett-Roddenberry Passes
This is sad and shocking, especially after learning just yesterday she will be in Star Trek XI. I had no idea she was sick...maybe she didn't want anyone to know.
Star Trek VI was dedicated to Gene. I'm sure they will honor Majel in some way in Star Trek XI. I hope she was able to see the latest version of the movie.

Re: Majel Barrett-Roddenberry Passes
This is so sad. When I heard she got voice duties on the new movie I was so thrilled. I thought it such a nice bit of continuity.
I had the pleasure of meeting her at a con many years ago, even then a jaded veteran of the con circuit, she kept a smile and was great to every fanboy and girl that approached her. A real class act.

Re: Majel Barrett-Roddenberry Passes
Some of my favorite memories of working at Star Trek: The Experience were when Majel would show up and spend hours around Quark's, talking to fans and expressing her appreciation for the employees there. I had the dubious pleasure of correcting her Klingon handshake. She laughed and said, "Yeah, you'd think I'd know how to do this." There's also a photo floating around of her giving oomox to Dr. Vlarg, one of our Ferengi contingent.
Sad news.

Re: Majel Barrett-Roddenberry Passes
This is such sad news. I admit I was shocked to see it.
In addition to her Trek work, I vividly recall her role as Lady Morella in Babylon 5. She was a much better actress than she was given credit for.
Requiescat in pace, and thanks for the memories.
