Detailed New 'Star Trek XI" Trailer Details Emerge
The new Star Trek XI trailer isn't due to release until next Friday, but details of what's in it have already hit the Internet. As reported by Ain't It Cool News, a person calling himself "Jack the Tipper," who works for Paramount, claims to have seen the new Star Trek XI trailer. He shared details with eager fans. Several scenes were detailed, including the opening one with an adolescent James T. Kirk, who appears to be joyriding in an antique 1960s Corvette and running from the law. He narrowly avoids falling off of a cliff but the Corvette wasn't so fortunate. Later, Kirk is seen when somewhat older. A voiceover of an adult male (his father perhaps?) tells him that "you never found yourself here. You never fit in," and "Maybe you were meant for something different, something bigger." The scene shifts to Spock. He is seen first being held as a baby, and then he is a bit older, walking around in a Vulcan robe as a toddler. Next, he is a young adult in his twenties, on a ship and angry with a young James T. Kirk for some reason, to the point when he tries to stab Kirk. Other bits show space ships firing at each other, with a voice over (with a Scottish accent,) saying, "I'm having fun!" And a close up of a glowering Dr. McCoy is next, where he says, "Space isn't supposed to be fun. It's aliens and phasers and death!" To read more, head to the article located here.

Erg, some of that sounds weird.
Kirk acting like James Dean? Too obvious.
Voice over with Daddy Kirk telling his son to find! his DESTINY! in the stars! Cliched.
McCoy ranting about phasers & death? I know he can be an old granny, but that doesn't sound like his usual way of expressing himself.
But baby Spock sounds cuuuuute. Awwww! And who doesn't want to see Spock try to kill Kirk? As many times as possible.
In fact, if they want to reboot the whole "under a bridge" scene with something that will piss of fans even more...

Well that sounds cliche and unexciting. I'm sure it will make millions of dollars.

I just read over the AICN reports, and though the first part of the trailer sounds a little pedestrian (with adolescent Kirk driving a vintage Vette to its demise) the rest of is sounds promising, especially, if Nimoy does make a brief appearance in it.
I'm not planning on taking in QoS, but I'm hoping to be able to view the trailer online next Monday after work.

Well, from the trailer we know that Kirk now has superpowers. Seriously, he jumps out of a speeding car, then hangs off a cliff? Cartoony much?
Only Jackie Chan can get away with that kind of crap, dammit!
Also, a car from the '60s gets totalled? Clearly this is a shot at the fans from Abrams. I bet Kirk looks over the cliff at the wreckage, then says "Man, everything from the '60s sucks." then winks at the audience.

This 'Jack the Tipper' person... is he of normal mind and body by any chance...?
It just sounds too childish and lame to be true.

Re: Detailed New 'Star Trek XI" Trailer Details Emerge
Doesn't sound good at all, although this is only a rumor, so who knows. Thought the first trailer struck an absolutely perfect note (or series of notes) - I was watching it for months. It was one of those 'gives you the chills' piece of cinema.
Really looking forward to this upcoming trailer based on the report a few weeks back (?at a convention?) concerning someone or other on the movie team who saw it and said something to the effect of 'I was literally moved to tears'. That sounded good to me. Star Trek could use a movie where the genre and the actors and the concept are again taken seriously - and who doesn't feel like they have to apologize for so doing.
This early report doesn't sound like it's that sort of trailer at all. For some reason, I've been having these horrific visions of 'Speed Racer in Space' come May 2009. I think it was the combined release of the bridge picture and the image of these incredibly young and effeminate actors on the magazine cover that planted this seed of concern.
Who knows. Maybe I'm being grumpy because I was watching what is arguably one of the best scenes in Trekdom ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GSvV2QTAcHY) last night. After all the crap that has come out the last few years and the ignominous end to Voyager / Enterprise, I sometimes forget how deeply moving some of this used to be.
Here's hoping ...

I felt the same way about the fight with Kruge on Genesis in ST 3, yeah.

Gee, now this sounds really cheesy. I hope this isn’t a preview of how they are going to make Star Trek "cool".

I suggest we wait a few days until we can actually see the trailer, rather than jumping to too many conclusions based on a description from a nameless Paramount window cleaner, or whatever the guy is.

Well, so far this is all summing up the crap that I thought it was going to be.

The "vintage Corvette" bit sounds lame. Think Tom Paris and his 20th century fixation. Zzzz.
The emotional 20-something Spock is intriguing. Fits with "The Cage." It would seem that the older Spock got, the better he got at controlling his emotions.
The "Maybe you were meant for something different, something bigger," made me roll my eyes. I can't tell you how many films I've seen on Henry VIII and his daughter Elizabeth where they said something when she was tiny that she would be great. That kind of stuff yanks me right out of movies. If someone is going to be famous in the future, fine, but 99% of the time, no one knows it when they're a kid or a teen.
I'll probably go and see Bond (The husband is a fan,) so I'll have the bonus of seeing the trailer. Can't wait!
I vacillate between optimistic and worried about the movie. Depends upon when you catch me.
