More 'Star Trek XI' Plot Details
An attack on a starship in search of one of the Enterprise's heroes is part of a Romulan time-travel plot. As reported by Entertainment Weekly, more plot details from Star Trek XI are emerging, along with the pictures recently released. The Romulan baddie Nero, complete with facial tattoos, is part of an attack on the USS Kelvin. He is "desperately seeking one of the film's heroes." Star Trek XI will then focus and Kirk and Spock, showing the origins of their friendship and telling the story of how they became Enterprise officers. Star Trek XI explores how the entire original series crew came together. The action takes place on at least several planets; Earth, Vulcan and an ice planet. Fans may not be comfortable with some of Star Trek XI. According to the article, "The movie subversively plays with Trek lore, and those who know it. The opening sequence, for example, is an emotionally wrenching passage that culminates with a mythic climax sure to leave zealots howling 'Heresy!'" "The movie is about the act of changing what you know, said Damon Lindelof. They will be comfortable with the presence of Leonard Nimoy though. J.J. Abrams felt that his presence in the movie was critical. As for Nimoy, he had no great desire to reprise the Vulcan character, but Abrams was able to persuade him. "I thought Spock was behind me," he said. "I had no unfulfilled wishes. I felt J.J. and his writers had a very strong sense of who the characters were and how they should work. To find a team that was interested in putting it all back together was very exciting." One of the photos recently released showed Kirk in a black uniform instead of the familiar gold. According to Entertainment Weekly, "black [is] space-cadet colors in Abrams' Trekverse." The first full trailer of the movie will be paired, as rumored, with the new James Bond movie, which opens on November 14th. To read more, head to the article located here.

Owwwww! They better not let Spock see a Romulan's face! Because that's the heresy to which they refer, I knows it!!!
Spock was faking the whole time in "Balance of Terror," sleazy green-blooded bastard that he is! "Oh golly gee whiz, I had no idea, Jim..."

I'd say you're right about the 'heresy' aspect, but doesn't the opening sequence take place with Old Spock in the late 24th century?
BTW, I love your av, Temis.

Re: More 'Star Trek XI' Plot Details
At this rate, all I care about is the spirit of Star Trek: keeping with the theme of hope and outer space-based cowboy adventures. All I want to see is Gene's vision, some kick-ass CGI and some great story tellin' and fine acting!

EW screwed this up. The cadet uniforms are red, with red pants and red collars. Kirk is wearing the black uniform undershirt the rest of them are also wearing, he has simply lost his shirt on an away mission or something.
There is no way in hell cadet Kirk is sitting in the captain's chair with eveyone including Chekov outranking him.

Re: More 'Star Trek XI' Plot Details
Here's what one of the posters on trekmovie.com managed to piece together about the plot:
After seeing the pictures and reading the EW article, I think I can glean a few things about the plot of the film.
1) James Kirk has been shamed somehow. He’s a lone wolf on the Enterprise, and he is not trusted. A black uniform is a (rather obvious) physical symbol of being a “black sheep.” We know Kirk is rebel of sorts as a basic character trait. We also see Spock attacking Kirk for some unknown reason. We ALSO have been led to believe (by the MTV blog and photo on the bridge) that Kirk and Sulu have gotten into a fight of some kind. Kirk is not the regular captain of the Enterprise. He has somehow taken command against the will of the crew or has been given command in a crisis. My best guess is that Kirk is on the Enterprise as either a prisoner or as a ward of the Enterprise. Kirk could have been kicked out of Starfleet for some indiscretion, but is being protected by the Enterprise because they believe his life is in danger (from Nero, obviously). Captain Pike’s injury takes place during the film, putting him out of action, giving Kirk a chance to step up and be in charge.
2) Kirk will be Captain Kirk in the gold tunic by the last shot of the film. Remember, this is an *origin* story. That means one of the grand climaxes to the film will be when all of our heroes are together, in the right places, ready to start their proper adventures. Casino Royale and Batman Begins are examples of this principle. It is not until the end of those 2 movies that we get all the dogmatic trappings of the characters that have been held back for the end. Bond finally gets his theme and says his catchphrase. Batman gets the Bat-Signal and a supervillain (The Joker’s card). The evasive, cryptic nature of Orci and Kurtzman’s responses on the topic bear out what the end result will be. By the film’s end, anything that isn’t in line with the basic mythos of Star Trek will be put into place. That includes Kirk in Command Gold, as Captain.
3) Nero’s time-travel scheme is definitely what we all expect: he seeks to kill James T. Kirk. I also assume there is something to the notion of Nero’s group being against Reunification. Damon makes it pretty clear in his interview that Nero’s aims are not “about money.” That means, it must be ideological. What else is there? Unless Jim Kirk stole his girlfriend in the 20 minutes he was in the 24th century, it must be ideological. It also makes more sense that they are rejecting traditional Romulan aesthetics.
|
It's official. These guys don't have a fucking clue what they're doing.
This not only flies in the face of everything established about Star Trek, and basic military protocol, it strains basic credibility. If Kirk was such a pain the ass, they wouldn't bother with "shaming" him, they'd just courtmartial his ass and chuck him out of the service. They sure as hell wouldn't let him get anywhere near command of a starship.

Assuming by "they" you mean JJ Abrams and company, then it's YOU who doesn't have a fucking clue.
You just quoted a hypothetical theory by some clown sitting in his underwear, surfing Trekmovie.com; not JJ Fucking Abrams.

It's official. Captain Robert April is like the Eli Stone of TrekBBS. Only instead of receiving messages from Sigourney Weaver, it's Harry Knowles in front of the computer in his underwear.
