Abrams, Kurtzman And Orci on 'Star Trek XI'

The hopefulness of Star Trek is what draws J.J. Abrams to Star Trek.

As reported by The deadBolt.com, at last week's TCA press tour in Los Angeles, even though there is darkness and conflict in Star Trek XI, it is both the optimism and the sense of family that makes it so special. "It is funny," said Abrams. "You know, looking at Trek...there is some real weird and dark stuff that happens in it. But the truth is that 'Star Trek' is so optimistic."

Abrams went on to add that "There's an optimism to 'Star Trek' that is to me one of the things that was most appealing about the idea even of doing the movie, which is, while there is darkness that must be in contrast, and while there is real obstacle and an incredible villain and it's terrifying and weird and creepy and scary and gross and all of the kind of things that you'd expect from this crazy sort of adventure, it's also got a huge heart and a wonderful kind of family at the core of it. ...Something like 'Star Trek' is ultimately...a hopeful story."

Walking onto the set for the first time was a thrill for Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci as well as for Abrams. When asked what it was like, Orci said, "Insane." According to Kurtzman, "...It's like when you're in a dream." "It was weird," said Abrams.

Is it just me, or does Abrams sound like he's babbling here? He should've been a politician, 'cuz he really didn't say anything of substance or answer any real questions.
