Shatner - A Lesson Not Learned
An accident on his motorcycle a few years ago has not convinced William Shatner to don protective gear when riding. As reported by Starpulse.com, Shatner is disdainful of wearing protective gear that might save his life while riding his motorcycle. "I think leather, and helmets and protective gear is foolish, in the hot California weather," said Shatner. "I ride with sandals and shorts and a t-shirt." Shatner was involved in a motorcycle mishap a few years ago where his bike slid out from under him. Listen to his account of the accident in the video located here. After that accident, bruised and bloody, with torn clothes, he resumed his trip, drawing surprised looks along the way. "People are driving up and college kids are yelling at me," Shatner recounted. "Finally they uttered the ultimate insult, 'Beam me up Scotty,' so I gave them the finger. To read more, head to the article located here.

The idiocy of not wearing protective gear aside

He is freakin' Captain James Tiberius Kirk! Of course he doesn't use protective gear!

It would be a shame if he gets seriously injured or dies from head injuries that could have been prevented. I certainly hope luck is on his side if he continues riding motorcycles in his old age.

Re: Shatner - A Lesson Not Learned
He told this story on Leno Friday night.
Leno's response was pretty funny. "Remember, you're not James T. Kirk - he doesn't need protective gear, he's indestructible. You're William Shatner."

If William Shatner falls off his motorcycle, the road better watch out.

I think I heard John C. Dvorak on the No Agenda podcast mention that Shatner said he makes up most of the stories he tells on talk shows. Makes for good television.

Damn. I meant to watch that, but that was a migraine night. Figures I'd miss something newsworthy!

Re: Shatner - A Lesson Not Learned
I know what scrapes and bruises I got after coming of my normal bicycle. I did have a motorcycle briefly some years ago and always wore full protective gear even for short trips, you just can't be to careful. Thankfully i never came off but I sold the bike because I moved interstate and never replaced it.
Meanwhile William Shatner just reminds me of a lot of other silly men his age, not surprising really.

Re: Shatner - A Lesson Not Learned
I ride and all I can say is Shatner is a Double DumbAss.
T-shirt,shorts and sandals? How stupid.
Helmet, boots, gloves and some sort of protective jacket.
Leather in the winter and amour mesh in the summer.
Most of the time when there is a bike crash (when the rider isn't popping wheelies or something else) it's other drivers that don't see them.
ALWAYS PROTECT YOURSELF FROM OTHER STUPID DRIVERS!!!
