'Star Trek' Ebooks To Take Hiatus

Star Trek fiction fans will have to rely on printed books for the time being with the announcement that original ebook Star Trek fiction will be discontinued.

As reported on TrekBBS, ebook versions of Star Trek fiction in print would continue, but series such as the Star Trek: Corps of Engineers, which was offered primarily in the ebook format, would come to an end.

According to Keith R.A. DeCandido, "The word 'hiatus' was quite specifically chosen. There is a possibility that the original eBook line will be revived in some form or other down the line."

DeCandido offered the following advice to those unhappy with the announcement. "If this decision annoys you, the best thing you can do is 1) buy the existing eBooks (which aren't going anywhere) and 2) support the print compilations (which also aren't)."

The last Corps of Engineers ebook was Remembrance of Things Past: Book 2, written by Terri Osborne. Remembrance of Things Past brought the crew of the da Vinci together with Picard's Enterprise crew. One da Vinci crewmember will be familiar to Star Trek: The Next Generation fans. Sarjenka, a young Dreman girl who was a pen pal to Data in the Next Generation episode Pen Pals, is now an adult who is serving in Starfleet.

In other Star Trek book news as reported at TrekBBS, two Star Trek authors will be making an appearance at Star Trek: The Experience in Las Vegas. Dayton Ward and Kevin Dilmore will be appearing at The Experience on Saturday, May 10th to hold a book signing.
