'Star Trek: New Frontier' Comics Unveiled

Star Trek: New Frontier will be continuing in comic book form with the release of issue number one slated for March. Peter David is the author for the series and Stephen Thompson is the artist.

IDW Publishing announced that their Star Trek: Second Stage lineup would begin with Star Trek: New Frontiers. New Frontiers will debut with Turnaround, a story about an experimental time-ship which has been stolen and must be recovered before the space-time continuum is disrupted.

IDW will launch Star Trek: New Frontier with a special limited edition retailer incentive that includes a new Quad Cover format, with four separate covers bound directly onto the same issue, "so people can get four covers without having to buy the issue four times," says Andrew Steven Harris, Star Trek editor at IDW Publishing. The first cover is painted, while the other three are drawn. Another limited edition incentive cover will feature David as a Starfleet captain on the bridge of his ship, crewed by a number of notable guest stars.

"Peter has written a cracking good story for us," says Harris. "It's like a Star Trek version of The Hunt for Red October, with all sorts of gripping sequences and a number of remarkable twists. The moment I read the pitch, I was totally hooked. Peter is an incredible writer, so you can pick up this book if you've never read New Frontier stories before and you'll be able to follow it right away. At the same time, if you're familiar with the stories and characters, it feels like it's being written for the long-time fans."

In other comic news, Chris Ryall, publisher and editor-in-chief of IDW Publishing, artwork for Star Trek: The Next Generation: Intelligence Gathering may be seen at his website.

I'm really looking forward to the New Frontier comics, although I'm still iffy about the art. But any form of New Frontier is better than no New Frontier, so I'm not going to complain too much.

^Kinda agree with you regarding the art from the one image I've seen.

I'm not a comic reader but since this picks up after the events of Missing in Action (and there don't appear to be any new New Frontier novels on the horizon) I'm going to give this a go.

I'd much prefer a novel, TBH. The previous comic is the only New Frontier publication I don't have, and I doubt I'll be getting these.

Will the comic book be considered canon for the NF novels?

^ Double Time was, so I don't see why any others would be different.
